Have you ever come back from a trip to find that a friend was in the same city and you just missed each other? Dopplr.com is a Web site that links you up online with friends and colleagues to share your travel plans before you travel….social networking on the go.
Dopplr allows “frequent travelers” to quickly and easily post itineraries for business and personal trips, and share them with friends and colleagues. As a February 08 Time Magazine article states, Dopplr can help you schedule lunch in London with a colleague or friend.
Dopplr is relatively private for a social networking site – only people you invite can see your travel plans. The only element I see Dopplr needing is (like Facebook) some sort of “limited profile” so that, for example, clients don’t have to see your vacation plans.
Dopplr has tools to identify friends who are on Dopplr, and to invite others. You can add a Dopplr box onto your Facebook profile. I’ve only got about five friends on it now, but am pushing several to join, including a friend from NY who is taking off six months to travel around Asia. Dopplr will let me look at her itinerary, match it to mine, and see where we can connect and dive. We already realized we will be crossing paths at the same resort in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia in February.
